“the student mentor scheme [ed. the mentor scheme is a scheme run in coordination with the current system of student advisors; the place of this scheme in the proposed new system is currently unknown] has helped me greatly since i started at Sussex. It has enabled me to get advise and tuition on a one to one basis, with someone who has done the same course as me and knows it's positives and it's pit-falls. Whilst it is true that you can visit a tutor for one to one tuition, the most you can ever realistically receive is about 15 minutes max, whilst the student mentors are able to give a whole hour (often more) of personalised tuition on the sections of the course that are most tricky. the fact that there are students who put themselves in a position to help fellow students is admirable and specific to sussex, to do away with it would be mad!”
