Testimonial # 18

In the second year of my undergraduate degree I suffered with severe confidence issues that triggered what I call a 'bad one' (acute episode of clinical depression). I don't want to give details, but I want it known that were it not for the two student advisors that I saw, I may quite possibly have done something(s) I would later regret. I saw them intermittently over the course of several months, and I was refered to the Psychological and Counselling Service (PCS) on campus. I would never have gone there of my own accord, nor would I have sought help in that way, but thanks to the student advisors, I gained enough confidence to seriously consider that I could overcome my situation, with help, and they showed me that the university has a lot of support to offer those in trouble. The advisors are a central point of contact for those with issues, and they are accessible and non-threatening. I can't emphasise enough how important these last two factors were in my decision to continue seeking help. If our student advisors are lost, then the university also runs the risk of losing some of their students.
